FARNHAMVILLE, Iowa (WOWT) – A man is in custody after a girl was found dead in a small Iowa town Monday morning.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office began the search for a juvenile female when she was reported missing Sunday in Farnhamville, Iowa — about 100 miles northwest of the Des Moines metro, near Fort Dodge.

When authorities initially responded, they detained a “male subject,” according to CCSO. After more searching, they located the dead body of the missing girl, who is being identified as Jane Doe.

Officials said that law enforcement has determined there is no threat to the public and that charges are pending. Several agencies, including the Iowa DCI and the Iowa State Patrol, are assisting in the investigation.
