Michigan State opens as more than a touchdown underdog for trip to Iowa
Michigan State will need to pull off a significant upset on the road this Saturday to avoid a three-game September losing streak.
The Spartans opened as eight-point underdogs to Iowa on Sunday, via Circa Sports. Within a few hours, that line had already shifted significantly toward the Hawkeyes, who were at -12 at many sportsbooks as of Sunday evening.
Michigan State has lost back-to-back home games entering its first road game of the season: the Spartans lost to Washington, 41-7, on Sept. 16, then fell 31-9 to Maryland on Sept. 23.
Iowa, meanwhile, was shut out by Penn State, 31-0, on Saturday for its first loss of the season. Former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara went just 5-for-14 throwing the ball.
Michigan State is expected to continue to start Noah Kim at quarterback in the game despite replacing him with Katin Houser late in Saturday’s loss to Maryland. The Spartans could have other personnel changes before Saturday’s game, though, if the transfer portal opens to Spartans players on Tuesday upon the expected firing of Mel Tucker.
