MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa’s Secretary of State is awarding Marion High School for its efforts to get students to register to vote.

Marion High School received the “Carrie Chapman Catt Award”, named for the Iowan leader of the women’s suffrage movement.

To qualify for the award, schools needed to achieve a voter registration rate of at least 90 percent among eligible students.

Marion registered 92 percent of its eligible seniors.

“Their voices are important,” said Secretary of State Paul Pate. “And we’re just making sure they know that their voice can be even more significant by being a voter, and also maybe even running for office someday or being a poll worker. So we wanna make sure they’re ready for it, and that’s what this is about.“

Students Corban McCoy and Ava Watley accepted the award on behalf of the school.
