Iowa PBS visits Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Sioux City’s Mid America Museum of Aviation and Transportation will be featured later this summer on Iowa PBS.

“Road Trip Iowa” is a half-hour program that “offers an adventure across Iowa’s scenic byways, enjoying the historic sites, unique attractions and natural beauty along the way.” An Iowa PBS producer and cameraman shot the museum segment Thursday morning while also making stops at Buffalo Joe’s Roadhouse in Smithland and along the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway.

The show aims to introduce Iowans to little points of interest found off the state’s major highways.

“It gives you an opportunity to explore it through Iowa PBS, but maybe also gives you an opportunity to come up with an itinerary of your own to get out and enjoy our great state,” producer Dan Bolsem said. “You’ll see all kinds of things you might not otherwise see.”

A special honor was also handed out at the air museum Tuesday. After providing 50 years of dedicated aviation maintenance, Steven Butler was presented with the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic award. Butler guided maintenance at Great West Casualty for more than 30 years until retiring just a couple years ago. A representative from the FAA office in Ankeny made the presentation.
