Iowa landed its 2025 quarterback Saturday morning when Fort Wayne (Ind.) Carroll junior Jimmy Sullivan committed while on an unofficial visit.

This season, Sullivan was named the Indiana Football Coaches Association’s top junior quarterback for Class 6A, the state’s largest class.

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, Sullivan played in nine games and his team finished 6-4 this year. He completed 115 of 213 passes for 1,508 yards (54 percent), 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. A pro-style quarterback, Sullivan ran 70 times for 406 yards and five touchdowns this year.

Sullivan also had Big Ten offers from Michigan State, Minnesota and Illinois.

Of the recruiting services, only 247Sports has an early ranking on Sullivan. It rates Sullivan as the No. 53 quarterback in the 2025 class.

Sullivan is Iowa’s third commit in the 2025 class, joining lineman Joey VanWetzinga from Pleasant Valley (Iowa) High School and High Sycamore (Ill.) High School linebacker Burke Gautcher. Previous offensive line commit Nick Brooks of Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Kennedy decommitted this fall.

What does this mean for Iowa?

The Hawkeyes rarely accept more than one quarterback commit in a class, so Sullivan is the choice for 2025. Iowa sought both Sullivan and quarterback Alex Manske (Algona, Iowa), who appeared to lean toward Nebraska.

Iowa recruits nationally at quarterback with recent pickups including 2023 quarterback Marco Lainez III of The Hun School (Princeton, N.J.) and Bishop Kenny’s James Resar (Jacksonville, Fla.), who plans to sign Wednesday.

What Sullivan brings to the Hawkeyes

Sullivan has a big arm and moves well in the pocket. Many of his passes are deeper routes, which is why he has a lower completion percentage. Although not considered a running quarterback, Sullivan has good speed and pocket awareness. At first blush, he’s a good fit for Iowa.
