Iowa DOT to consider funding roadwork ahead of Sioux City’s new water park project
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -The Sioux City city council is working to further develop Business Highway 75 ahead of the construction of the city’s new water park project.
Monday night, the council voted to apply for a “Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy” grant, also known as RISE. The council hopes the grant will help pay for work to add a left turn lane on the southbound side of the highway to allow people to safely turn into the park.
If approved, the grant would provide 50% of eligible project costs, or up to $1.25 million of the estimated $2.4 million cost of the work.
“We’re going to need those extended turning lanes. Because hopefully there’ll be crowds, and we don’t need people trying to turn off that highway going 55 miles an hour. This will be a good project to help get people in and out of that facility,” said Mayor Bob Scott.
The Iowa DOT Commission will consider the city’s application for RISE funding at its March meeting.
