Iowa basketball superstar Caitlin Clark honored by Hawkeye Marching Band vs. WMU

The Iowa Hawkeyes paid homage to college basketball phenom Caitlin Clark during their 41-10 victory Week 3 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday.

The Hawkeye Marching Band neatly created a stick figure — complete with a No. 22 Clark jersey — shooting a basketball into a hoop using hundreds of band members. The display occurred during halftime of the football team’s win over the Broncos. The impressive demonstration paid homage to the basketball superstar after a phenomenal 2023 season with the Hawkeyes women’s basketball team.

Clark led her Hawkeyes to the championship game of the women’s 2023 NCAA Tournament, ultimately falling to LSU 102-85. Even in defeat, Clark was impressive with 30 points and eight assists. She brought in multiple honors after putting the basketball world on notice last season, winning the prestigious Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year award. She amassed 191 points and 60 points in the tournament, and was the first player in women’s NCAA Tournament history with back-to-back 40-point games.

Clark is eligible for the 2024 WNBA Draft, but could potentially stay with Iowa for another two years before she inevitably heads to the WNBA to begin her professional career. She has been heavily compared to NBA legend Stephen Curry for her 3-point prowess and limitless range capabilities.

The 2023-24 women’s college basketball season kicks off in November, where Clark will once again look to put on a show for Hawkeyes fans at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
