IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The City Council gave its initial approval to a plan to redevelop land in northeast Iowa City to build apartments.

An 84 unit project would be built between North Dodge and Governor streets on the northeast side of Iowa City.

The land is located near a city park and residential neighborhood.

TV9 spoke to a homeowner and the developer yesterday, who say they both have concerns about what should go there.

The developer says he’s been trying to build something on the lot for years, but now he wants to sell the undeveloped land, or sell the completed buildings.

Tuesday night’s City Council meeting was the first of three readings of the plan.
