Central Iowa tornado survivors lean on their faith
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Tornadoes Tuesday night left behind more than physical damage.
Many of the people faced with destruction are saying they sent up prayers as the storms headed their way and then turned to their faith when confronted with the aftermath.
“I’m just thanking Jesus that we’re all here,” said Maggie Masker from Greenfield. “And my, like, last thing was I knew my daughter was ok, she was at daycare, and all my family and friends who live right here were all ok. But the dog wasn’t here. But we found her. So I’m just so thankful to God that we’re all here.”
”Before I went down the basement, I went all around my house and I prayed, I prayed for God to keep us safe,” said Valerie Warrior. ”I’m just praying that everybody was safe. Everybody is safe and nobody got hurt.”
Only people who live in Greenfield are allowed into the community Tuesday night, and the town is under a mandatory curfew from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday. They are providing shelter and food for survivors
