CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Hundreds of youth wrestlers from around the state gathered at Alliant Energy Powerhouse for the 2024 Iowa/USA Wrestling Kids Folk Style State Championships Sunday.

800 wrestlers from third through eighth grade competed. Both boys and girls took to the mats.

While the top eight wrestlers in each weight class took home medals, Michael Colleran, men’s folk style director for the tournament said wrestling is about more than just the sport.

“It is arguably one of the best vehicles for character development in all of sport and Iowa, does it really well,” said Colleran.
