INDIANAPOLIS — Despite Pat McAfee’s hopes, WrestleMania won’t be coming to the Circle City any time soon.

McAfee made his desires for an Indianapolis WrestleMania known at WWE Fastlane at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Oct. 8, saying “I think Indianapolis, Indiana, has deserved a WrestleMania.”

When did Indianapolis last bid for WrestleMania?

WrestleMania last came to Indianapolis in 1992, but the city has not had much luck landing a bid for the premier WWE event since then. It placed a formal bid for 2018, according to IndyStar columnist James Briggs, but Indianapolis was not selected.

Since then, Indianapolis has not placed an active bid for WrestleMania, according to Dan Gilot, Indiana Sports Corp senior director of marketing and communications.

“WrestleMania is a top sports-event property in the country, so we are always looking at bringing those kinds of events to Indianapolis and continue to build relationships with property rights holders to do so,” Gilot said in an email to IndyStar. “We agree with Pat that Indy would be a perfect place to host WrestleMania. Clearly, Indy is a great market for WWE with Fastlane setting new records for viewership, gate, and sponsorship. We think we have the perfect package because of our partnerships with Visit Indy, Downtown Indy, and the CIB that puts us in a really good position if that opportunity ever comes. There are no active bids at this time but WWE is negotiating directly with cities so we are hopeful that they would consider Indy as a destination for WrestleMania.”

When will Indianapolis host WrestleMania again?

When could WrestleMania be in Indianapolis?

That consideration, however, will be pushed for the next couple years — WrestleMania is already booked.

Philadelphia is the confirmed host of WrestleMania in 2024, with the event going to the Eagles’ Lincoln Financial Field. There are multiple reports that WrestleMania also has 2025 and 2026 booked with Minneapolis and Las Vegas, respectively. Tennessee Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill has also confirmed that WrestleMania will be in Nashville in 2027, taking place in the Titans’ new stadium.

Even after all of those events, though, Indianapolis may still be out of luck.

There are additional reports that WrestleMania will go overseas in 2028 and 2029, something wrestler John Cena has been pushing for a while.

So if you’re hoping to see WWE’s premier wrestling event here in Indianapolis, you’ll have to wait. Sorry, Pat.
