Through two starts with the Indianapolis Indians this season, Paul Skenes is proving why he was selected No. 1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023.
Skenes threw three scoreless innings, struck out five batters and walked none in his debut against the Louisville Bats on March 30. Against the Memphis Redbirds on April 5, Skenes surrendered one hit in three innings of work with six strikeouts, one walk and no runs.
Thirteen of his 44 pitches against Memphis reached 100 mph or more.
“I was feeling good throughout,” Skenes said after the game. “Ideally the last pitch of the outing is 101 in the seventh (inning); but that’s kind of the goal, a slow ramp up but I was happy with it.”
