Morning thunderstorms knock out power for 4,000 in central Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A quick burst of severe weather knocked out power Wednesday morning for about 4,000 people on the south side of Indianapolis.
Around 7:40 a.m., a line of severe thunderstorms moved west across Marion and Johnson counties. The storms had the potential for “brief, strong wind gusts, along with frequent lightning and heavy downpours,” Storm Track 8 meteorologist Marcus Bailey said on X.
Trees, limbs, and branches were knocked down as the storms moved through, taking down power lines as they fell.
Current Power Outages
At 9:40 a.m., there were 3,450 AES Indiana customers without electricity. Most of the outages were clustered along State Road 67 near Ameriplex Parkway and in the area south of the I-465/I-65 interchange. Call 317-261-8111 to report a downed power line.
At 9:40 a.m., approximately 1,000 Duke Energy customers were without power. These outages were clustered in Greenwood and north of Martinsville. Call 800-769-3766 to report a power outage.
