A central Indiana attraction is now closed for renovations.

Officials with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum say the plans include changes to every part of the building over the next 18 months.

Floors will be made bigger, with the basement eventually opening for the general admission experience.

The museum’s Vice President, Mandi Bender, says the work is a long time coming.

“Our museum, we’ve been in this building since 1976. So we’re 47-years-old, and that’s the last time there was any sort of major renovation to this place. And while we absolutely love the museum as it sits today, we have so much opportunity to create great stories for the public to come and see us.”

There are still some parts of the Speedway Museum still open during the renovations, including a tour of the grounds.
