Indianapolis man sentenced to federal prison for firing shots during May 2020 protests downtown
Tyrone Ross was sentenced to 5 years in federal jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 5 years in federal jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm throughout the Might 2020 protests in response to the homicide of George Floyd.
In line with courtroom paperwork, on Might 30, 2020, Tyrone Ross pulled a pistol from this clothes in entrance of the Birch Bayh Federal Courthouse in downtown Indianapolis, which is federal property, and fired a number of photographs throughout Ohio Road, which was full of autos and pedestrians.

After the photographs have been fired, video reveals Ross’ group ran west whereas different pedestrians ran in several instructions. The indictment says Ross ran and caught up along with his unique group as all of them ran towards the southwest nook of the federal constructing on the nook of Ohio and Meridian streets.
As Ross continued to run on federal property, video reveals he once more raised the handgun straight within the air and fired no less than one further shot.
Ross, now 30 years previous, was prohibited from possessing a firearm as a result of a number of prior felony convictions.
“Following the homicide of George Floyd by police, many peaceable and law-abiding protesters took to the streets in downtown Indianapolis and all around the nation to specific their outrage and heartbreak. With utter disregard for the lives of everybody current, an illegally armed felon fired a number of photographs on this crowded space,” Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Legal professional for the Southern District of Indiana, mentioned in an announcement asserting the sentence. “As we speak’s jail sentence demonstrates that armed criminals who threat the lives of the general public will face critical penalties.”
Ross may also be supervised by the U.S. Probation Workplace for 3 years after he’s launched from federal jail. He initially confronted a sentence of as many as 10 years in jail within the case.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation performed the investigation into the incident.
