Indianapolis Jazz Collective Electric Band featuring Dwight Adams
Indy’s premier jazz quartet, the Indianapolis Jazz Collective, offered their electric version over the holidays with featured Detroit trumpeter Dwight Adams at the Jazz Kitchen December 29, 2023.
Adams has spent the good part of 20 years on the road with Stevie Wonder along with having played and recorded with world-renowned jazz artists including Marcus Belgrave, Rodney Whitaker, James Carter, Shawn Wallace and Donald Walden. Known as a soul-inspired jazz trumpeter, Adams was a fitting guest of the collective this night which featured compositions by Rob Dixon and several of Steve Allee’s favorites from his Magic Hour fusion album released in 1994.
Alternating between Dixon and Allee tunes, the Indianapolis Jazz Collective Electric Band featured Rob Dixon (sax), Richard ‘Sleepy’ Floyd (drums), Jonathon Wood (bass) and Steve Allee (piano). Playing to packed sets, there were still many of us celebrating the season on these nights leading up to when the ball drops into 2024.
As the year winds down and as others take time off, the Jazz Kitchen continues to bring great live music to Indy. The venue has live music offerings seven nights a week with a full dining menu and truly a gem for our city. One of my go-to venues in Indy – thank you Jazz Kitchen for 29 years and counting.
