6-car crash on East 38th Street precedes death of man with gunshot wounds

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A six-car crash along East 38th Street on Friday afternoon preceded the death of a man found with gunshot wounds, Indianapolis police say.

A total of five people were hospitalized after the crash. No names of the people involved had been shared after of 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called to the disturbance just before 4:50 p.m. Friday in the 10500 block of East 38th Street. That’s in an area with apartments and a church that’s halfway between North Mitthoefer Road and North German Church Road.

While IMPD officers were on the way to the disturbance, they learned of the crash.

About 2 minutes after the initial dispatch, more police were sent to a crash at East 38th Street and North German Church Road.

Police recovered a firearm from the dead man.

Officer Tommy Thompson of IMPD’s public affairs division says investigators are searching for surveillance video from the area.
