Gary Fire Department arrived on scene and took the woman to St Catherine’s Hospital, where she died. The man was taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital for treatment.

Southern Indiana man arrested in Illinois, charged with murder of father


PARIS, Ill. (WISH) — A 24-year-old southern Indiana man has been arrested in Illinois and preliminarily charged with the murder of his father, Indiana State Police say.

Oakland City, Indiana, Police Department found Brad Fiscus, 57, dead in his home in the 300 block of West Dale Street on Thursday afternoon. The Gibson County city of 2,200 residents is about a 45-minute drive north of Evansville.

Fiscus’ 24-year-old son Jonathan, of Oakland City, was incarcerated in the Edgar County jail in Paris, Illinois, on an unrelated incident when an arrest warrant was issued Friday for the murder. Paris is about a 2-hour drive north-northwest of Oakland City.

An autopsy on Brad Fiscus has been scheduled for Saturday, Indiana State Police say.

As of Friday afternoon, police have not revealed how Brad Fiscus died, what may have led to the murder, or whether Jonathan Fiscus acted alone.

Online court records did not show a hearing scheduled yet in Gibson Superior Court. However, the online records also showed an arrest warrant issued for Jonathan G. Fiscus in a November domestic violence case.

The person who answered the phone Friday afternoon at the Edgar County, Illinois, corrections facility said that a jail booking photo for Jonathan Fiscus would not be available until the corrections administrator returns to work at 8 a.m. Monday.

Florida transfer forward Sam Alexis commits to Indiana


Florida transfer forward Sam Alexis announced his commitment to Indiana on Thursday night.

Alexis, a 20-year-old native of Apopka, Florida, averaged 4.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in 24 games last season for the Gators. The 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward has one season of eligibility remaining.

Over 89 career games at Chattanooga, where he played his first two seasons, and Florida, Alexis has averaged 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocked shots and 1.1 assists per game.

His most productive season came as a sophomore at Chattanooga when he started 32 of the team’s 33 games and averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots in 26.4 minutes per game. His block percentage that season of 8.6 ranked 37th in the country, according to KenPom.com.

At Chattanooga, Alexis was named third-team All-Southern Conference in the 2023-24 season and to the league’s all-defensive team. As a freshman in the 2022-23 season, he was named to the league’s All-freshman team.

Alexis’s best statistical performance last season at Florida, which won the national championship, came against North Florida on December 21. He finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds in 18 minutes.

He owns a career field goal percentage of 52.5 percent and is a career 51.6 percent free-throw shooter.

Alexis is the ninth transfer portal commitment for IU coach Darian DeVries this spring. He joins Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright, Reed Bailey, Lamar Wilkerson, Jasai Miles, Tayton Conerway, Jason Drake and Nick Dorn.
