Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center to receive an almost $1.5M grant

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A health education center has received a big grant to continue equipping forensic nurses.

According to officials with the University of Southern Indiana, who hosts the Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center, the program will receive $1.49 million in federal funding distributed over the next three years from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

This will be to continue the Indiana SANE Training Project. The project provides education statewide to increase the number of forensic nurses, also known as sexual assault nurse examiners.

The project specifically focuses on rural and medically underserved communities.
