Indiana unemployment ticks up again – Inside INdiana Business

Indiana’s unemployment rate hit 3.8% in June, up one-tenth of a percent from the previous month. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the state added 5,100 private sector jobs over May.

June’s unemployment rate marked the third consecutive month-over-month increase.

The DWD said Indiana’s total private employment stands at 2,854,800. The state primarily saw job gains in the private educational & health services; construction; leisure and hospitality; and professional and business services sectors.

The state’s labor force participation rate stayed flat at 62.4%, which remains slightly below the national rate of 62.6%. The labor force, which includes residents who are either employed or seeking employment, stands at 3,378,707, up more than 1,500 from the previous month.

The DWD said the state had 96,433 open job postings as of July 17, while 19,084 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed as of the week ending June 29.

The state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate, which also rose one-tenth of a percent to 4.1% in June.
