Indiana reportedly cancels future nonconference game vs. ACC team
Indiana will not play Louisville in 2024 as the programs had previously agreed upon, according to a report.
That’s per the Indianapolis Star’s Zach Osterman, who notes that this is the 2nd time IU has canceled a game from what was originally announced as a 3-game series between the Hoosiers and Cardinals. Indiana also canceled a 2025 home game with the Cardinals.
Osterman reports that Indiana’s clash with Louisville on Saturday in Bloomington is expected to be the only game from this series that gets played. The report also says that Indiana will pay a $1 million fee for backing out of its return trip to Louisville.
Indiana is expected to replace Louisville with a FCS opponent, according to the report. Indiana’s nonconference schedule for 2024 currently includes home games against Florida International and Charlotte.
The move to cancel the Louisville series comes as the Big Ten is expected to lift its mandate that teams schedule at least 1 Power 5 opponent in nonconference play.
IU is 2-0 all-time against the Cardinals. However, Saturday will be the first meeting between these programs since 1986.
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
