Southern falls to Illinois State
Southern Illinois traveled to Illinois State Saturday to tackle the Redbirds in a four-set match.
Illinois State took the primary set with Southern trailing shut behind, thanks to 6 kills by Nataly Garcia. Within the second set, the Redbirds solely allowed Southern a complete of 16 factors, 4 of which had been kills by Tatum Tornatta.
The Salukis took the shut third set 25-23. Nineteen of the Saluki’s 25 factors had been kills and 9 of these had been put down by Garcia, Tornatta trailed with 4 kills, and Imani Hartfield and Annabelle Sulish each had three.
The Redbirds began the fourth set with a five-point rating streak. Halfway by the set, Illinois State had one other streak of 4 that was adopted by a five-point streak for the Salukis that consisted of kills by Tatum Tornatta, Annabelle Sulish, and Brinley Burdette. The Redbirds took the fourth set over the Salukis successful the match 3-1.
Southern Illinois was led in kills by Garcia (17), Tornatta (14), and Sulish (11), who all hit double-digit kills. The Saluki’s three aces had been by Bailey Neuberger, Nataly Garcia, and Kelly Franklin.
Freshman Claudia Bobb led the Salukis with 14 digs and Anna Jaworski adopted with 9.
The Salukis transfer to 15-10 on the season and 8-5 in convention play.
