Some Illinois sheriffs say they won’t enforce new assault-style weapons ban
CHICAGO (CBS) – This week, sheriffs throughout Illinois introduced that they won’t implement the brand new regulation, referred to as the Defend Illinois Communities Act, banning assault-style weapons and excessive capability magazines.
In practically an identical statements, sheriffs in DeKalb, Kankakee, McHenry, and LaSalle counties stated they swore to guard residents’ constitutional rights after they took their jobs. They declare the brand new regulation violates the Second Modification.
In response, Gov. JB Pritzker stated “The assault weapons ban is the regulation of Illinois.”
He went on to say, “Sheriffs have a constitutional obligation to uphold the legal guidelines of the state, not decide and select which legal guidelines they help and when. We’re assured that this regulation will maintain as much as any additional authorized challenges.”
