DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) – Northern Illinois University Police warned students and staff of an unverified bomb and active shooter threat Monday morning, according to an email sent to students, faculty and staff.

The campus was notified around 8 a.m. about the threat at Barsema Hall, a classroom building for the business college. As of 8:20, students and staff had not been evacuated, but police said there would be a heavy presence in the area.

Police also warned people not to touch suspicious packages, backpacks or boxes and asked the community not to call 911 for updates. Instead, information will be provided via university social media and email.
