QUINCY (WGEM) – People of all ages attended a series of hunter safety courses this weekend.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources puts on four different safety courses a year in Adams County.

Participation in this training is a necessary step for people to gain their hunting license.

Attendees learned how to properly and safely use several different types of firearms.

Certified Volunteer Instructor Ron Cook said they want attendees to realize how important safety is when hunting.

“What we’re going to teach them is the best way that we know how to be the safest person that you can be,” Cook said. “But you know, once you leave this area, it’s up on the individual to be as safe as what we taught them to be.”

Each course is taught by a certified volunteer instructor and is free for anyone to attend.
