Illinois communities halt snow removal operations due to blizzard conditions

NORTHERN ILLINOIS (WIFR) – Due to blizzard conditions, some communities in Stephenson, Ogle and Jo Daviess Counties will be halting snow removal Friday evening.

According to the City of Freeport, snow removal will end at 5 p.m. Friday. Snow removal operations will resume at 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13.

The Stephenson County Department says it will stop snow removal operations around 5 or 6 p.m., Friday and resume around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

The Jo Daviess County Highway Department also advised it will end its snow removal at 5 p.m. Friday. Snow removal operations will also resume around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Stephenson and Jo Daviess Counties are under a blizzard warning beginning at 5 p.m. Officials say travel should be avoided as driving conditions are extremely dangerous.

According to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, the Ogle County Highway Department will stop its snowplows at 6 p.m. Friday evening and resume at 3 a.m. Saturday.
