Two people killed when Amtrak hits drag race car in Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — Two individuals died when their car collided with an Amtrak practice whereas attempting to outrun it, Detroit police stated.

Detroit Police Chief James White stated the victims of the crash early Monday had been a younger lady from Novi and a younger man from Wixom, each of their 20s. Their names haven’t been launched.

“Simply horrible, horrible. Tragic . . . didn’t should occur. This drag racing, drifting scenario is completely unacceptable. I don’t perceive that degree of recreation and hazard,” White stated.

White stated officers had been dispersing drag racers and one car sped away and tried to beat the practice.

Amtrak issued a press release saying, “There have been no studies of accidents to the 102 passengers, 5 crew members or 1 street foreman on board. Amtrak is working with native legislation enforcement to analyze the incident.”

The Detroit crash occurred on the identical day an Amtrak practice collided with dump truck in Missouri, killing 4 individuals.
