Rashida Tlaib, Shri Thanedar win Detroit-area races for Congress

DETROIT, MI — U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Shri Thanedar have been reelected to represent the Detroit area in Congress for another two years.

Both Democrats had over two thirds of the vote in their respective Michigan districts with most ballots counted, the Associated Press reported, calling the races.

Results so far for the Nov. 5 election show six of Michigan’s 13 seats in the U.S. House went to Republicans, while six went to Democrats and one race still hasn’t been called.

In District 12, Tlaib had 69% of the vote against Republican James Hooper, who had 26%, while about 5% went to third-party candidates. The district includes parts of Detroit, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Redford, Westland, Southfield and surrounding areas.

In District 13, Thanedar had 68% of the vote against Republican Martell Bivings, who had 25%, while nearly 7% went to third-party candidates. The district stretches from Romulus, Taylor and Southgate to Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck and over to Grosse Pointe.

Thanedar and Tlaib were both elected in 2022 with over 70% of the vote.
