Kamala Harris, her running mate to visit Detroit next week
Vice President Kamala Harris will make her first stop in Michigan as the likely Democratic nominee for president next week in Detroit, the Harris campaign confirmed Tuesday night.
Harris will be joined at the Michigan visit by the person she picks to be her running mate in the coming days, according to her campaign, which hasn’t released the specific date and details of the event.
The Detroit trip will be part of the duo crisscrossing the country, with fewer than 100 days remaining before the Nov. 5 general election.
Democratic President Joe Biden dropped his bid for reelection on July 21 and endorsed Harris, his vice president and a former U.S. senator from California, to be the Democratic nominee in his place.
Harris was last in Michigan on July 17, when she spoke at Portage’s Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Museum.
She’s currently weighing which Democrat should be her running mate with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz expected to be among those under consideration.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump selected his running mate, Ohio U.S. Sen. JD Vance, on July 15 during the Republican National Convention. The first campaign rally with Trump and Vance after the announcement came in Grand Rapids on July 20.
With its 15 electoral votes, Michigan is expected to be among a handful of states that decide which party controls the White House for the next four years.
In 2020, Biden defeated Trump in Michigan by 3 percentage points, 51%-48%. But four years earlier, Trump won the state against Democrat Hillary Clinton, 47.5%-47.3%.
