Dot & Etta’s Shrimp Hut making a comeback in the Detroit food scene

DETROIT – One of many greatest attracts on the Burgess Avenue Meals Pageant in Detroit this week was a relic from the previous.

“Everybody that’s got here up is like ‘oh I used to be born and raised on Dot and Etta’s, the place have you ever been?’ It’s completely humbling,” stated Donald Crawford of Dot & Etta’s Shrimp Hut.

For near 60 years Dot and Etta’s in Detroit served up scrumptious, battered and seasoned fried shrimp.

“It’s a secret household recipe that was developed again within the 40s,” stated Donald.

Dot and Etta’s Shrimp Huts closed their final location in 2010. Now the household is internet hosting pop up at festivals throughout town.

“It’s the sights, the sounds, the smells, the style,” stated Dwayne Crawford. “That is Detroit. We really feel lucky and really blessed to be part of it.”

The brothers of Dot & Etta’s Shrimp Hut are contemplating increasing to incorporate a meals truck and even opening a brand new brick-and-mortar location.

“My aunt gave us this meals. My grandfather used to deal with us to this meals. Ya know my brother and I have been so busy within the basement the entire time that we weren’t actually conscious of what a constructive impression it had,” stated Dwayne.

As one of many first profitable black-owned companies in Detroit the household legacy now consists of the fourth era.

“We have been lucky to grow to be part of the material of town within the 60s and 70s and it’s due to the onerous work that got here earlier than us,” stated Dwayne.
