Detroit Lions unveil new uniforms for upcoming season – WDET 101.9 FM
Primary home and away jerseys will continue to bear the Lions’ iconic Honolulu blue and silver color scheme. A traditional block-style font will be utilized for the player numbers, as a new style of striping adorns the sleeves and helmets.
Lions’ safety Kerby Joseph says the white road uniforms are his favorite.
“I’m a big fan of the white and the blue,” Joseph said. “It pops so good with the white…with the little blue details — it just sticks out.”
The Lions are also replacing their alternate gray uniform with a redesigned black scheme. It will be paired with a special blue and black helmet.
It marks the first time in more than 15 years the franchise will wear black jerseys. Team president Rod Wood revealed head coach Dan Campbell requested that look return not long after being hired.
“He wore the black when he was [a Lions player],” Wood said. “We were in the draft room [in 2021], he said, ‘hey, Rod — when can we get the black jerseys back?’ And I said, ‘I’ll make a deal — when you win the division, I’ll bring the black jerseys back.’ And so I went out on a limb and thankfully he delivered.”
Wood says the Lions finalized their new uniforms with the NFL before securing the NFC North title last fall.
The jersey unveiling comes as the city of Detroit prepares to host the 2024 NFL Draft April 25-27.
