A few rain & snow showers and some sunshine for Metro Detroit this weekend

4Warn Weather – SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of rain and snow showers, primarily in the morning. Some sunshine expected late morning and into the afternoon. High: 48. Temperatures falling into the 30s for most of the day.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy skies. Low: 25.

SUNDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy skies. A chance of rain showers late. High: 45.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of rain showers changing to a rain/snow mix. Low: 36.

We’re watching the radar Saturday morning as a cold front will move through the region this morning and bring a chance of a few rain/snow showers early, then a few flurries possible into the afternoon. Our daytime high in the upper 40s was hit early, and expect temperatures to fall into the 30s through most of the day.

We will keep some cloud cover into the forecast looking ahead into the overnight hours Saturday night. It will be colder overnight as well, expect overnight lows to drop into the middle 20s.

Majority of the weekend is dry, before another chance of rain moves into the forecast late Sunday night, and will hold onto a slight chance of rain showers early next week on Monday, but majority of the day should stay dry. With colder air moving into the region, we will keep the chance of some snowflakes North of Metro Detroit to start next week as well.

Cloud cover sticks around for the first part of next week before we do break up the cloud cover a little bit by Wednesday and bring some sunshine back into the forecast. High temperature is remaining a few degrees below average into the low and mid 40s for the first half of next week

Expect the cloud cover to hold tough looking ahead into next Thursday as well before we do see temperatures warm-up a bit by Thursday afternoon. High temperatures warming into the upper 40s to lower 50s by Thursday.

Another round of rain moves into the region for the end of next week on Friday. High temperatures going back above average again. Expect high temperatues to head into the middle 50s by Friday afternoon.

DETROIT (FOX 2) – A 16-year-old moped driver was hospitalized after a crash on Detroit’s west side on Wednesday night.

The backstory:

Detroit police say the teen disregarded a stop sign while going east on Vassar when he collided with a vehicle turning south on Outer Drive at about 9:30 p.m.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was not injured.

Chickens, geese found at vacant home after nonprofit reports them stolen

Chickens and geese that went missing from a local nonprofit’s Detroit site were found in the backyard of a nearby home, the director of operations said Wednesday.

The Full Circle Foundation, a Grosse Point Park-based nonprofit, said more than a dozen chickens and geese were believed stolen from a chicken coop on Detroit’s east side that also features the Full Circle Edible Garden.

The nonprofit provides training and job opportunities for young people with special needs.

Neighbors who learned from news reports about the missing flock found the “chickens were being held in the backyard of a vacant home not far from the Full Circle Edible Garden,” said Stephanie DiVirgil, director of operations. She said Ribbon Farm 4-H owns the flock.

“The homeowner was contacted, and she reached out to Full Circle to confirm,” said DiVirgil. “We were able to retrieve all of the chickens and geese that were found on the property, 19 in total.”

The foundation and Ribbon Farms 4-H are working to secure the site, including cameras, fencing and lights.

“We will likely start a fundraising campaign to have these items installed,” DiVirgil said. “We’ve gotten amazing support from the community, including offers to help pay for these additional security measures.”
