2 youths detained after shots fired at school on Detroit’s west side
Two youths were taken into custody and a weapon was recovered Tuesday after gunshots were fired inside a Detroit school, the city’s police said.
Officers responded to the 5800 block of Auburn Street on Tuesday afternoon after shots were fired inside a school on the city’s westside, police said Wednesday in a statement.
No injuries were reported.
The Detroit Leadership Academy High School, a charter school, is at 5845 Auburn Street. The school was identified by WDIV (Channel 4) as Detroit Leadership Academy High School.
“The school was placed on lockdown and two juveniles were taken into custody,” police said. A a handgun and other evidence were recovered.
Police did not release names of the two taken into custody. Both suspects were detained and taken to a juvenile detention center.
A bullet hit a whiteboard inside of a classroom and a gun was found in a 14-year-old female’s backpack. The weapon was brought to the school by a 15-year-old male, WDIV reported.
School officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
