What is Ohio State football’s depth chart against Youngstown State?

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football should offer a detailed look deep into the roster Saturday against Youngstown State.

The two-deep below is based on game usage, practice views, interviews and other intel. The team no longer provides its own, so we make our projections each week.

Typically the only benefit of playing an FCS opponent is the opportunity to play as many reserves as possible. A few positions could offer an intriguing look into the future.

  • Ohio State is already planning for other teams attempting to limit Marvin Harrison Jr. like Indiana did

• Quarterback: We assume Devin Brown plays more than the six snaps he played at Indiana. Later in the game, though, could this be the best chance for true freshman Lincoln Kienholz to take the field?

• Running back: Would be a great to finally get another look at Evan Pryor after injury wiped out his 2022.

• Wide receiver: Carnell Tate saw a lot of action at Indiana, but fellow freshmen Brandon Inniss and Noah Rogers only played a couple of snaps. The second half could become a showcase for young receivers.

• Linebacker: C.J. Hicks played only one defensive snap in the season opener. Could this be the sort of week in which he is “unleashed,” as defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said over the summer.

• Cornerback: After a true three-corner rotation dominated the IU snaps, could freshmen Jermaine Mathews and Calvin Simpson-Hunt get some time?

A lot of interchangeability with this tackle group, especially with Hall, who could conceivably start at either spot even though he came off the bench (after one play) at IU.

Jack Sawyer (Jr., 6-4, 265)

Caden Curry (Soph., 6-3, 260)
