Volleyball Opens UAA Conference Play in Cleveland – University of Chicago

CLEVELAND, OH- The University of Chicago Volleyball team opened UAA Conference play Saturday in the first round-robin of the season, falling to Emory & Carnegie Mellon.
 
EMORY 3, UCHICAGO 0
 
In the first game of the day, UChicago fell to Emory in three very close straight sets 28-26, 28-26, 25-22.
 
Offensively, Maggie McInerney led the Maroons with 13 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocks. Diya Mishra added 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Jillian Amsler added 2 blocks. Maya Patel had 24 kills and 8 digs. Klaudia Barbarossa had 13 digs.
 
As a team, UChicago hit .070 to Emory’s .071.  In the tight fought match, the biggest difference was Emory’s 11 Blocks to the Maroons 7.
 
CARNEGIE MELLON 3, UCHICAGO 1
 
In the second game of the day, Carnegie Mellon defeated the Maroons 3-1.
 
UChicago shined on the net in this game with Diya Mishra recording 8 blocks along with 9 kills, and Emma Lotts (6) and Sally North (5) both recording career highs in blocks. Overall UChicago had 16 blocks in the match.
 
Emma Lotts had 10 kills, Thalita Marangon added 6 kills and 13 digs, with Maya Patel dishing out 25 assists and 11 digs. Klaudia Barbarossa had 18 digs and 3 assists in the loss.
 
UChicago takes on the University of Rochester Sunday morning at 11 AM Eastern/10 AM Central to close out the first weekend of conference play.
