Victim identified in suspected murder-suicide in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The woman killed in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide that took place in Cleveland Thursday has been identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

24-year-old Yahriesha Ortiz was fatally shot, according to police, after a verbal altercation with a 22-year-old man, who was later identified as the suspect.

“It was just chaos; the guy had no emotion on his face; he executed those people; his intention was execution,” said Krystal, a neighbor who lives across the street. “The one guy was laid out right here {on the sidewalk}, the one girl was hiding behind this car, this maroon car right here, and was shot, I believe, in the head.”

Police said at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, they got a call about shots fired in the 2700 block of Natchez Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found three victims with gunshot wounds.

During an argument, police said the suspect fired multiple shots at Ortiz

Police said during the shooting, a 21-year-old female and a 26-year-old male were also struck by gunfire.

Officers at the scene found the suspect and pursued him, during the chase the suspect shot himself.

Cleveland EMS responded to the scene, and Ortiz was pronounced dead.

“For me, it was just, you know, stay inside because we had our infant daughter,” said Krystal. What was terrible was the woman that died, I believe it was her mother, seeing the pain that she was going through, it was just horrible.”

The two other victims were taken to MetroHealth Hospital.

One victim is stable, the other is in serious condition.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Police said this incident is currently being investigated as a murder-suicide. However, this information is subject to change as the investigation continues.
