Thousands still without power after damaging storms rip through Northeast Ohio this week

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Thousands of people are still without power after damaging storms ripped through Northeast Ohio late Thursday night.

Between Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties, there are still more than 65,000 people in the dark as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday. FirstEnergy Corp. previously said many people will be without electricity for nearly a week.

Cuyahoga County: More than 25,000 without power

Geauga County: More than 10,000

Lake County: More than 12,000

Lorain County: More than 1,200

Medina County: 70

Portage County: Nearly 11,000

Summit County: 5,200

The storms produced high winds, causing power lines and trees to collapse. The storms produced a tornado that blew through Cleveland’s East Side.

The roof of New Life at Calvary Church in Cleveland blew off and windows from the Justice Center in Cleveland blew out. The tornado had winds of 100 mph.

A second tornado struck down on Mentor.

The rest of the weekend will be a lot quieter than what we experienced Thursday night.

Today will be partly sunny with a high near 77 degrees. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 60 degrees.

Sunday is predicted to be mostly sunny with a high of 74 and nighttime will be mostly clear with a low of 56 degrees.
