CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Fundraising efforts to raise over $2.5 million begin Thursday to bring a Superman statue to downtown Cleveland.

The statue will depict an in-flight Superman, measuring almost 10 feet in length.

The beloved comic book creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, will be alongside, peering up at the superhero.

Featured with them is Jerry’s wife, who was the inspiration for Lois Lane.

A phonebooth with a pile of clothes inside will complete the storytelling of the scene.

The statue will appear as the centerpiece of the Huntington Convention Center at St. Clair Avenue and Ontario Street.

A press conference will be held Thursday at Cleveland History Center, led by statue creator David Deming as well as Siegel and Shuster Society President, Gary Kaplan.

Citizens are able to donate amounts of any size to supermanstatuecleveland.org, or mail to Siegel and Shuster Society c/o Leigh Goldie, 23500 Mercantile Road, Suite D, Beachwood, OH, 44122.
