Production on “Superman: Legacy” will soon be touching down in Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio in the near future as it has been revealed that both cities have been added to the list of filming locations for the 2025 movie.

The Ohio Department of Development recently announced that the state has awarded $44 million in tax credits for TV and Film production in Ohio with “Superman: Legacy” (codenamed “Genesis”) receiving $11,091,686.70 of those credits.

“Investing in these productions fuels the vibrant creativity that’s alive in Ohio’s communities and serves as a powerful catalyst for economic growth,” stated Ohio Department of Development Director, Lydia Mihalik. “These projects celebrate and showcase our diverse landscapes, generate jobs, stimulate local businesses, and create a lasting legacy for the arts in Ohio.”

The fact that Cleveland, OH has been chosen as a filming location ties into the history of Superman as the co-creators of the Man of Steel, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, lived in the Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio when they first came up with the idea of the iconic superhero. In addition to a memorial marker commemorating Cleveland as “The Home of Superman”, Siegel’s home still stands to this day and was completely renovated in 2009 while the site of Shuster’s former home has been memorialized with a series of metal panels that reproduce the cover and first 13 pages of “Action Comics No. 1”.

In addition to Cleveland and Cincinnati, filming on “Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to commence in Atlanta, GA this March with various reports indicating that director James Gunn is currently in the city while pre-production on the film continues.

“Superman: Legacy” tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and model Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

“Superman: Legacy” is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
