Summit County officer dies after crash

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A deputy from the Summit County sheriff’s department died this weekend after being involved in an off-duty traffic accident.

Jacob Nees of Twinsburg joined the sheriff’s office in June. He graduated from University of Mount Union in 2018 where he studied criminal justice.

According to the sheriff’s office, Nees previously worked as a parole officer before joining the department, according to a post from the sheriff’s department’s Facebook page.

“Deputy Nees will be greatly missed by our Office,” the post said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Nees family and to Jacob’s friends and loved ones.”
