Sentencing for former Cleveland police officer guilty of several criminal charges
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A former Cleveland police officer who pleaded guilty to several criminal charges connected to an assault on a woman last May was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday by Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Saffold.
On Jan. 30, Kevin Stanard, 61, pleaded guilty to attempted felonious assault, strangulation, and possessing a firearm in a liquor permit premises.
The assault happened on May 5, 2023 in Cleveland.
The victim spoke in court at Stanard’s arraignment on Sept. 7, 2023 and said this was not the first time Stanard had assaulted her.
The city released this statement on Jan. 30, 2024:
“When Officer Stanard was indicted last August the City immediately moved to relieve him from duty and suspended him without pay pending the adjudication of the criminal case. We were informed that he subsequently retired on November 1st. The City condemns all acts of violence and we appreciate the Prosecutor’s Office work in this case to ensure justice for the victim.”
