ARLINGTON, Texas — A key veteran on Ohio State football’s defensive line will return to lead with a fifth season.

Ty Hamilton announced he will put off the NFL Draft to remain with the Buckeyes. He joins a line of similar decisions coming along the defensive front, as Jack Sawyer and Tyleik Williams have also announced they will be back for fourth seasons.

Each one has done so with some variation of the same message: “Reload the clip.”

“That would be special,” Hamilton said prior to the Cotton Bowl about a potential mass return. “If the guys come back, we thought we were good this year, but having an extra year would be a bonus.”

In his fourth season, the defensive tackle from the Columbus suburb of Pickerington recorded 38 tackles (4.5 for loss) with two sacks. Prior to the Cotton Bowl, he identified pass rush and more backfield penetration as where his game could grow the most.

Another year allows him to take another step in his development — something that he saw work out previously in his family. Hamilton’s brother, DeVon, spent five season at Ohio State before becoming a third-round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mike Hall Jr. is the only defensive lineman to announce he is entering the NFL Draft. J.T. Tuimoloau has not yet announced his plans.
