Ohio State Performs Well at the Cleveland State Open Saturday – Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Eight Buckeyes competed Saturday at Wooding Gymnasium in the Cleveland State Open and Ohio State came away with six Top 3 finishes, including titles at 125 and 184 pounds. 

Freshman Vinny Kilceary went 5-0 in the 125-pound bracket to earn the championship. He won his first three matches by major decision before defeating Ethan Berginic and Charlie Farmer of Army in the semifinals and finals, respectively. 

Teammates Seth Shumate, a redshirt freshman, and true freshman Ryder Rogotzke went 4-0 to set up the championship bout at 184. Each agreed to a no contest with Shumate declared the winner of the bracket and Rogotzke taking second.  

Redshirt sophomore Andre Gonzales took second, wrestling unattached, at 133. He fell in the title bout to Dylan Ragusin (Michigan-Unatt.). by decision, 6-5.

Freshman Rocco Welsh battled to the title match at 174 before having to succumb to a medical forfeit in the title bout to place second. 

Ohio State is back in action at noon Sunday at the Covelli Center in Columbus. The No. 7 Buckeyes play host to No. 18 Pittsburgh in a Top 20 battle.
