CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Ohio mother convicted in the death of her 16-month-old daughter, who was left alone for 10 days while she went on vacation, will learn her fate Monday morning.

32-year-old Kristel Candelario pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and endangering children for the death of her daughter, Jailyn, in February.

Cleveland police previously said Candelario left the baby inside their home on June 6, 2023 while she went to Detroit and Puerto Rico. She found Jailyn unresponsive upon her June 16, 2023 return and called 911.

First responders pronounced the toddler deceased at the scene.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley previously said Jailyn was discovered in a Pack-N-Play pen on a liner soiled with urine, feces and soiled blankets.

“This case is one of those truly unimaginable cases that will stick with me for many years to come,” O’Malley said previously. “As prosecutors, it is our job to represent the victims and today we spoke on behalf of 16-month-old Jailyn — who is no longer with us — due to the selfish decisions her mother made. This conviction today, is the first step towards justice for Jailyn.”

Candelario will be sentenced in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on Monday at 9 a.m.
