DALLAS – The holiday season is here, and with it comes gift shopping, family gatherings and, naturally, stress.

That stress can often manifest into irritability, making some people less-than-jolly to be around during the season of cheer. And if you’re among the many who are traveling during the holidays, you’re likely to encounter some of these super-stressed people as they aggressively weave, dodge and honk their horns through crowded traffic on snowy roads.

Fortunately for those in Ohio, one local city was ranked among having the least aggressive holiday drivers in the United States, according to a new report.

Cleveland, Ohio, ranks among the top 10 U.S. cities with the least aggressive drivers, according to GasBuddy, a Boston-based technology company that tracks gas station locations and fuel prices. Cleveland ranks fifth on the list of least-aggressive drivers, behind only Seattle, Washington (No. 4); Portland, Oregon (No. 3); Providence, Rhode Island (No. 2); and top-ranking Minneapolis, Minnesota. That marks an improvement from last year’s rankings, when Cleveland placed No. 8 on the list of U.S. cities with the least aggressive holiday drivers.

GasBuddy compiled its report using data from its optional, opt-in “Drives Feature,” which assesses drivers’ habits during their trips. The report used data from 8,149,863 drives in the top 50 metropolitan areas in the U.S. from Nov. 23 through Nov. 26 – which was Thanksgiving weekend – noting specific driving events including speeding, fast acceleration, and hard braking.

The top 10 cities with the least aggressive holiday drivers, according to GasBuddy, are:

1. Minneapolis, MN

In contrast, GasBuddy also measured the U.S. cities with the most aggressive holiday drivers. Again, fortunately for those in Ohio, none of the top 10 U.S. cities are located in the Buckeye State or any bordering states.

“Driving during the holiday season can be stressful, but it’s important to remember to stay calm and courteous on the road,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Additionally, aggressive driving can negatively impact fuel efficiency, causing drivers to waste money that could be spent on holiday celebrations or gifts for loved ones.”
