ODOT orders removal of Thin Blue Line Flag under fallen Cleveland police officer memorial sign on I-90

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Ohio Division of Transportation (ODOT) officers have requested the household of a Cleveland police officer killed within the line of responsibility to take away a material Skinny Blue Line Flag hanging beneath his freeway memorial signal on I-90.

Officer David Fahey, 39, was killed by successful and run driver on I-90 on Jan. 24, 2017.

Assertion from ODOT:

“On Might twenty third, //Cleveland.com/ Plain Seller reached out to ODOT a few flag connected to the Officer Fahey Memorial alongside I-90. //Cleveland.com/Plain Seller requested when the flag could be eliminated. Due to this criticism, ODOT has contacted Officer Fahey’s household and requested that or not it’s eliminated. ODOT trusts the household will take away the flag within the close to future and considers this problem closed.”

There’s a brown memorial signal accepted by ODOT for Officer Fahey positioned on I-90 close to the W. 117th Exit that reads “Officer David Fahey Memorial Freeway”.

In July 2021, Officer Fahey’s household and buddies needed to take away a picket Skinny Blue Line Flag that had been positioned beneath the ODOT signal.

ODOT stated no signage is allowed on state property until it’s accepted.

“There are not any exceptions to the rule,” stated Isaac Hunt, ODOT Public Data Officer.

Israel Alvarez, the hit and run driver who killed Officer Fahey, was sentenced to 12 years in jail.
