National Weather Service confirms at least 8 tornadoes following deadly Ohio storms

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed Friday multiple tornadoes during Thursday night’s deadly storms.

CRAWFORD/RICHLAND COUNTY

NWS said an EF-3 tornado touched down in Plymouth Township at 7:54 p.m. Thursday.

HANCOCK COUNTY

NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Hancock County at 7:30 p.m.

NWS officials confirmed the wind speeds of the tornado, which held a maximum width of 250 yards, were estimated at 120 mph. The tornado stayed on the ground for nearly 10 miles.

LICKING COUNTY

NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado that hit Licking County. The details on where the tornado landed have not been confirmed.

LOGAN COUNTY

NWS officials confirmed the storms in Logan County produced a high-end EF2 tornado and later upgraded to an EF-3.

A press conference with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed three people are dead as of Friday morning.

During the conference, Sheriff Randall Dodds said searches Thursday night and Friday morning turned over three known fatalities.

At this time, the names of the deceased have not been released.

MERCER COUNTY

NWS confirmed an EF-1 tornado in western Mercer County.

NWS also confirmed another EF-1 tornado on the border of Mercer County and Auglaize County.

Officials have not provided details on the damages from either tornado.

DARKE COUNTY

NWS said an EF-2 tornado touched down in Darke County at its border with Miami County.

UNION COUNTY

NWS said an EF-2 tornado touched down in central Union County near Broadway.
