Mansfield home where 6 were shot, 2 killed was Airbnb, neighbors say; Victim’s family speaks out

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Tragic details coming to light after that deadly shooting at a teen party in Mansfield just minutes before midnight on Friday.

19 News has learned two teens were shot and killed, and four teens were injured by gunfire, including one as young as 14.

Neighbors confirm the home on the 800 block of Ferndale Avenue in Mansfield was an Airbnb rented out for the large teen party that they allege was unsupervised.

Mansfield Police tell 19 News that after responding to the deadly shooting, they found numerous guns and drugs inside the home.

Tanjanaya Taylor is the mother of 17-year-old Jarmel Boyd.

He was shot and killed at the party, his body still inside the home when first responders arrived.

Taylor couldn’t fight back tears as she told 19 News her son was her world, “He was the man of the house, like he stood up to everything to be the big brother. When I went through my cancer, he was right there with me.”

Boyd was a junior at Mansfield High School and a shining light in his mother’s life.

He was larger than life at 6′6″, and always played the role of protector of his mother and younger siblings.

Now, he will be forever 17, a lifetime destroyed by gun violence, “I lost everything when I lost my son. He was too good to be gone. He didn’t deserve it. He deserves justice because he didn’t deserve to be gone,” Taylor said.

The Mansfield mother couldn’t hold back her tears as she talked about learning that the home where the teen party was held was an Airbnb.

She says an adult would have had to rent for the teens, “These kids are coming with weapons and these parents are renting AIR BNB’s for these kids and then they’re not staying there with them – putting other people in harm’s way. Why would you want to do that,” Taylor said.

19 News is working to find out what led to the deadly shooting.

No arrests have been made.
