Kyle McCord wants to solve Ohio State football’s sluggish starts, starting with his performance
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Another 300-yard passing performance for Ohio State football quarterback Kyle McCord, but it came on top of another slow start.
The Buckeyes did not score their first offensive touchdown until there was 8:56 left on the clock in the third quarter. McCord completed only 2 of his first 7 passes before finding his rhythm.
This was OSU’s third game against a Power 5 opponent, and none have featured an especially strong start. After the 37-17 victory, McCord said after the game he needs to be part of the solution.
“There wasn’t anything that we didn’t expect for the most part,” McCord said. “And it wasn’t anything that the coaches could have done better I feel like as an offense and as the quarterback on the offense, I feel like we need to take initiative, and regardless of what they call, make it work.
“We didn’t quite do that in the first half. And then the second half, I felt like we did do that. We executed when the opportunities presented itself, and that’s huge.”
McCord finished 19 of 29 for 320 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He avoided any interceptions but was sacked three times.
