CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The jury trial for the man accused of murdering a woman on Cleveland’s West Side in September 2022 began Monday in front of Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge Michael Shaughnessy.
Cleveland police said Calvin Nettles, 49, stabbed and beat Carly Capek, 38, to death inside her home on W. 78th Street on Sept. 6, 2022.
The mother of four tried to escape by climbing out a window, but was pulled back in, said family members.
The jury was seated on Monday.
Nettles is being held on a $1 million bond at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.
